The photo series TV-Mania comprises more than two hundred photographs by Mikhailov, at the centre of which, initially, stood the artist's interest in the relationshipbetween art-historical epochs and the quotidian media images of countless television stations. Almost all of the works of this series depict anonymous television images, captured by Mikhailov from the TV-screen during actual broadcasts. "I try to find pictures for photography in this new media reality", is how Mikhailov describes his procedure. Mikhailov arranges the photographs, largely colour prints in 20 x 30 cm format, into large-scale installations. Thematically they traverse an arc from topical war correspondents’ reports via world politics to beauty, the private sphere and sex.
