The film Rosa, 2001, recombines the cinematic film Viktor Vogel – CommercialMan (Germany 2001, directed by Lars Kraume) with a couple of earlier art actions by Christian Jankowski: Die Jagd (The Hunt) and Mein Leben als Taube (My Life as a Pigeon). The point of departure in Rosa was, "You can have two of my actions to stuff around with, if in return the actors will answer my questions on art." (Christian Jankowski) As a result, Jankowski has major-league actors like Götz George and Vadim Glowna pondering matters of art in the midst of their scenes. What is beauty in art? How free is the artist? Do art and commerce influence each other?
Entirely in keeping with his style of developing works of art in an interplay with structures outside the world of art, Jankowski utilises the situation on the film set of Viktor Vogel - Commercial Man to once again seek new approaches to questions and themes relevant to his work - relating to the myth of the image of the artist or the reception of art, but also reflections on the blending of fiction and reality or thehandling, in cinematic terms, of the visual arts.
