Seeing Birds, 1997, A Prime, 1997/1998, and New Land, 1999, are, in formal terms. stringently composed works of photographic art, which Noguchi Rika likes to collate into series formats: images of deserted landscapes, a helicopter alighting, some anonymous architecture. No dramatic scenes or spectacular appearances, just some simple moments, which reveal an interest in a different worldview.
The title of the series, New Land, 1999, refers not only to a geographic designation, italso poses questions relating to societal developments. The images depict laboursituations, industrial zones in Amsterdam, heavy machinery, dour landscapes, all marked by the monumental effects of the sky and the low-lying horizon.
