The One Two Master

The two Austrian artists Thomas Baumann and Martin Kalter have already produced a number of films. Vis Motrix, 2002, is part of larger film project entitled The One Two Master, which took as its point of departure Heinrich von Kleist's essay Überdas Marionettentheater [On the Marionette Theatre]. Baumann and Kaltner picked up on Kleist's juxtaposition of a famous dancer and a string puppet in a street theatre and transferred the subject to the world of contemporary dance and the skateboarding scene. Danced choreographies are put in relation to the monotonous exercises of a skateboard rider - with both sides being guided by the idea of perfection and the aim of coming as close to it as possible.
